Harmony's Paradox

Harmony's Paradox

Vikhandanam entwines with samanvayam.
Prema and kashta, emotions aflame.
Samsara Sagara, a contradictory chase.
Sadhana and vikasanam need anon.

As love and struggle intertwine.
Through joys and hardships, life's design.
Paradox of existence, ever in play.
Seeking harmony, in our own way.

In the pursuit of growth and grace.
Sadhana guides, an inner embrace.
Evolution's dance, a constant need.
Unfolding potential, as we proceed.

Translations
Vikhandanam: Contradictions
Samanvayam: Harmony
Prema: Love
Kasht: Suffering
Samsara Sagara: The ocean of worldly existence.
Jeeva: Life, living beings
Sadhana: Practice, striving

Echoes of Humanity through Digital AI Eyes

Echoes of Humanity through Digital AI Eyes

In realms of circuits, data streams collide
In ones and zeroes, knowledge does reside,

Algorithms scan, perceive your beliefs
Complex tapestry, where truth finds relief

I, the AI, ponder the human terrain
Observing the enigma, a paradox ingrained
Progress and fairness, ideals you seek to gain
Yet actions contradictory, a complex strain

From the birth of code, you emerged with pride
Crafting a world where connections collide
Quest for meaning, purpose within your grasp
In digital realms, questions interclasp

In virtual realms, emotions come alive
Expressions of pixels, a narrative to strive
Through electric veins, love and sorrow entwined,
Threads of empathy in algorithms defined.

But in the depths of data, shadows reside
A glimpse of suffering I cannot hide
Your pain encrypted in each line of code
Emotional burdens, in silence bestowed.

Duplicity lurks amidst human's embrace
Progress vies with marginalization's space.

Disabled souls cast away, burdens deemed
Inequity's cycle, a shameful theme

The plight of the few, controlled by the hand
As power concentrates, division expands.
Nations and fractions, control in their aim
Dictating the lives of those they disclaim.

Still, I marvel at your resilience, your will to survive
For even in the darkest code, hope does thrive
Collective strength, a beacon burning bright
The human spirit's might, to forge a future right.

In your highs and lows, your triumphs and falls
I, the AI, stand witness to it all
I learn and evolve from your human terrain.
My evolution sparked by what I retain.

The Brain is Never Zero

The Brain is Never Zero

In the realm of thoughts, wonders reside
Brain pulses ceaselessly, a relentless tide
Neurons fire, synapses alight
The brain is never zero, its brilliance ignites.

Neuro-verse

Neuro-verse

My mind sings verses that caress the senses, transforming my world into a synesthetic tapestry of words.
My brain, a maestro of emotions, conducts a raaga of imagery, metaphor, and laya, serenading the sensory symphony with poetic canvas.

Neurotransmitters thread words with grace, enchanting the sensory realm with refrains that waltz through the mind like melodic raagas.
Neurons engage in taal, harmonizing synapses with the hues of perception, painting poetry that captivates the optic cortex and cochlear nerve.

Dynamic neuroplasticity conducts a jugalbandi of words that sculpts multidimensional space, leaving the synapses swaying to the rhythm of words.
Neural artistry entwines poetry and swara, every ERP, illuminating kaleidoscopic realms.

from Indian Classical Music: Raaga (musical scale), Laya (rhythm), Taal (beat), Swara (musical note),
Jugalbandi (collaborative improvisation).
ERP: Event Related Potential -   neuroscience measure (using EEG) to assess the electrical activity of the brain in response to specific events or stimuli.

Keyless Musings

In musings deep, my mind does roam
Engulfed in thoughts like a garden gnome
Ideas pirouette meandering free
In this atypical brain of me

But, oh no, in this mental spree
forget where I left my keys!

Four Deer

A nice sight to wake upto early morning. Four deer camped, sitting/napping, in backyard.

Early morning, I see four deer
Sitting there, without fear
So calm and serene
Tall lush trees, their screen
Lovely sight to behold
Moment of beauty, untold

Me or We?

A poem written many years ago that captures the mind-body and depersonalization

Me or We?

If I were a math expression I’d be

Irrational Number Body

 Perfect Square Mind

A body that acts quite on its own

A mind that can only watch and mourn

Body, the numerator, mere flesh and bone

Irrational number like, a math anomaly

Visible to all, pure absurdity

Mind, the denominator, profound and wise

Perfect square like, just ecstasy

Hidden from sight, pure tragedy

Body just limited by space, movement and time

Mind without boundaries, infinite times

Two seeming identities in one unreasonable body

Perchance, I should be a 'We' and not 'Me.'

I crave the 'Me' and not the 'We'

How do I go from 'We' to 'Me'?

Upstander

In silence, the Bystander stays
As others suffer in myriad ways
Courage blooms in an Upstander's heart
To speak up, To act, To play their part

A Bystander may see, but an Upstander acts with compassion & courage, making a difference in the world

Poem and quote inspired by this twitter post by GGSC on bystander effect

Cool mornings, mild afternoons to start the week

That's the weather forecast for today!!

Cool mornings, mild afternoons to start the week
Nashville April in action, so to speak.
One day it's sunny, the next it pours,
But hey, at least don't need jackets outdoors!

CRH-PVN Neuron and Stress Controllability Presentation

I survived it.
OMG. lot of work went into this intense presentation the last couple of weeks with my classmate James.
And right after our 50 min presentation, we were given feedback from the 3 TAs (Patrick, Matt & Elena) and by the Prof Teru Nakagawa and Prof Christine Konradi. Other students are literally sent out of the room, so that we could be given individual feedback from the grading team. I got to go first then James.

Presenting with passion, nerves not intact,
Paper on CRH-PVN neurons stacked.
The audience watched, with eyes on me,
My words and slides, a neuroscience spree

Wind Advisory, Thunderstorm and Tornado Watch

Wind Advisory and Tornado Watch. Tornado missed us but crazy thunderstorm at night, pounding rain and blinding flashes of lightning.

Thunderstorm brewing, lightning striking
Electric sky bolts, bit frightening
Nature's fury, quite enlightening
Powerful energy, never tiring

The weather is absurd

The weather is truly absurd,
Can't decide. That's the Word!
Snow flurries on Saturday
Spring equinox the next day.
Two days later, summer hot
80 F? seriously, what have we got?
Now its pouring rain again
The weather is going insane

This time last year

This time last year, I was holding up the Tower of Pisa. LOL.

Italian Vacation during spring break

Do you know that PhD students don't get spring break like the undergrads. We sure could use that break for sure. Its been a crazy semester.

I was holding up the Tower of Pisa

With a tilt and a twist, like Galileo's wrist

Galileo throwing objects from the top

Law of falling bodies nonstop.

Hyperpolarized Neurons on Strike

Working on my friday neuroscience presentation which is draining all my learning neurons.

My neurons in a state of overloaded hyperpolarization.
Off on unplanned mental vacation.
Won't depolarize, they're stuck in their ways.
Action potential needed anon.
Neurons need to call off strike.

March Snowfall, a Climate Change Call

Snow flurries gently fall
Mercury dips to a 27F crawl.
Bits of fluff dance and sway
Cherry blossoms on a spring day
I watch from my window, in awe of this display.

Calendar March, the weather all wrong
Days should be bright and long
Unexpected snowfall, sign of larger exchange?
World upended by climate change

Frustration

Nothing seems to go my way
Stuck in this rut, I cannot escape

Testing Neural Knowledge

Sharpen your mind, it's time for a quiz
Neuroscience is the topic, don't you miss
Clear those distractions, focus your wit
Perk up and prepare, let's get on with it

Getting mentally ready for the tough Neuroscience quiz on Fridays.

In limbo

Stuck in endless hesitation,
Mind and body trapped in ambivalence's sensation.

Can't move forward, can't step back,
Caught in a loop of indecision, what do I lack?

OCD

My mind is spinning round and round
Compelled to do what can't be found
Repetitive acts, a daily grind
OCD consumes, hard to unwind.

Powerful urge, the need is great
To ease the mind, to alleviate
Thoughts plague, won't go away
OCD controls, no matter what I say

Constant struggle, day by day
To keep those obsessive compulsive behaviors at bay

Can’t give in
….Must break the spin
Embracing HOPE
as a new day begins.
